Is the suggested age a strict requirement, or can younger people still participate?

The suggested age is just that—suggested! While it can serve as a guideline, younger participants can certainly take part with some assistance. Everyone is different, so it’s important to consider individual abilities rather than strictly adhering to the age recommendation! PS our kits are fun for adults too!!

Don’t be deterred by the age suggestion—if it looks like fun, go for it and give it a try!

Do I need a kiln?

No, all of our clay projects are designed as air-dry clay projects — this means no kiln is required! Because who’s got a kiln lying around?

Is the clay food safe?

No, please do not eat or drink out of any of your clay creations.

How long does it take for the clay to dry?

Clay can take 24–48 hours to dry completely. Place in the sun to speed up drying time. It won’t get sunburned.

How long will my clay last?

Leave your clay in the original packaging, and it should last up to 6 months. Make sure to properly seal the container to keep the clay from drying out.

Is the clay waterproof?

No; however, applying 2–3 coats of varnish will make clay water-resistant.

How do I clean up my clay mess?

Use a wet cloth to clean any clay off of the work surface.

What surface can I work on with clay?

We recommend a non-porous surface for easy clean up and so that your clay doesn’t stick. Find a good sturdy surface that’s ready for some art to happen.

When do I add the plaster to the pinch pot?

Make sure all clay is completely dry before assembling your cactus cup. Be patient!

What consistency should my liquid plaster be before adding the cactus pieces?

Plaster should be the consistency of pancake batter before adding your pieces. But like we said: Don’t eat it!

What temperature of water should I add to the plaster?

You should use cold water to mix with your plaster. Do not use water drawn from a well.

What happens if I make a plaster disaster?

Clean up any plaster splatters/mess with a damp cloth while the plaster is still wet.

What do I do with excess plaster?

Any excess plaster should only be disposed of in the trash — do NOT put down any sort of drain. Please!

Do I need to wear gloves when mixing my plaster?

Gloves are highly recommended for this step, but we can’t tell you what to do. We aren’t your parents!

Project Size?

Prickly Pairs Cactus Cup is around 4" wide and 6" tall depending on the Artist.
